AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF AESTHETIC MEDICINE GUIDELINES FOR SPECIALTY
BOARD CERTIFICATION
The following surgical procedures performed during
continuing education for nurse, doctor, and other medical practitioners qualify for inclusion on operative logs. The logs must be detailed enough so that the board of directors and credentials committee can determine that each
surgery and dermatology procedure meets the requirements of IBAM. Applicants must submit typed case logs documenting of at least 25 cosmetic procedures of each treatment modality in the basic aesthetic module certification and 12 cosmetic procedures of each treatment modality in the Advanced aesthetic module certification performed in the year prior to application
Module I - Basic Aesthetic Medicine Board Certification :
Chemical peeling of the face, neck, chest and hands (superficial to
medium peel). All areas on one patient equal one procedure.
Soft tissue augmentation with dermal fillers of malars, chin, lips, peri-oral
and peri-orbital and Glabellar regions (all areas on one patient equal
one procedure)
Botox injection: upper, middle and lower face, neck and chest. All areas
on one patient equal one procedure.
Non-ablative skin rejuvenation by laser or light of face, neck, chest
and hands. All areas on one patient equal one procedure.
Laser Hair treatment.
Facial Nerve Block
Module II - Advanced Aesthetic Medicine Board Certification:
Intradermotherapy :
Lipo sculpting of the face, neck, arms, body, and legs (bilateral counts
as one procedure) Cellulite therapy, including subcission.
Lower eye fat pads reduction by intradermotherapy.
Skin rejuvenation, scars and pigmentation therapy.
Hair restoration
Module II - Advanced Aesthetic Medicine Board Certification:
Minimally Invasive Aesthetic Surgery:
Liposculpting and Lipofilling or Fat Grafting (one area)
Suture Suspension Lifts:
Suture Suspension Lift of face (upper, middle and lower face)
Suture Suspension Lift of neck
Suture Suspension Lift of eyebrows and Chin
Suture Suspension Lift Buttocks (OPTIONAL)
TRAINING/EXPERIENCE SUMMARY
a) Satisfactory completion of specialty residency training for an
approved board;
b) Satisfactory Completion of AAAMS www.theaaams.com two modules;
d) Applicant must document a minimum of one (1) year of practice
experience in Aesthetic Medicine.
e) Applicant must submit typed case logs documenting the minimum
required number of each cosmetic procedure listed in the module board
certification sought in the year prior to application. The continuing
education medical nurse or doctor case logs must meet the standards of
AAAMS. All cases must have been performed after the candidate completed
the two modules of AAAMS training. All cases submitted for review by
AAAMS must be typed in an operative report format, with clearly labeled
publication quality before and after photographs securely attached to
each operative report. Operative reports must illustrate a depth and
breadth of cosmetic cases in the module of certification sought.
